Can you use an impact driver for an ice auger?
Don’t do it. You want a nice smooth and even turning motion, not slamming it like an impact or hammer drill. Hammer drills are recommended because they usually are rated higher torque, but you don’t use the hammer setting for drilling ice. With either a hammer or impact you could potentially damage blades.
Can you use a drill as an ice auger?
The K Drill is less efficient (but more durable with redrilling holes and dirty ice) than some bits, but still allows probably ~30 holes through 14″ of ice on a 5 amp battery. This setup with a drill (and any lightweight auger) is still the way to go for me and most people who aren’t drilling through 3′ of ice.
Is a 6 inch hole big enough for ice fishing?
6″ works just fine for walleyes. I’d bump it up to at least an 8″ if you were targeting larger fish though. But keep in mind, it’s harder for walleye to turn around and swim away if they get off once you get them in a 6″ hole.
