How do bike carburetors work?
The carburetor has two swiveling valves above and below the venturi. At the top, there’s a valve called the choke that regulates how much air can flow in. If the choke is closed, less air flows down through the pipe and the venturi sucks in more fuel, so the engine gets a fuel-rich mixture.

What does the needle do in a carburetor?
NEEDLE JET: The needle jet/nozzle controls the fuel/air mixture up to 3/4 throttle. How it overlaps with the jet needle depends on the jet orifice inner diameter, air bleed holes and type of nozzle screen. Most modern Japanese carburetors use a fixed needle jet/nozzle assembly which cannot be removed.
How do you adjust the fuel mixture on a carburetor?
Find the adjustment screws on the front of the carburetor. There should be two screws on the front of the carburetor, which are used to adjust the air and fuel mixture. Often these look like flat-head screws and you can use a screwdriver to turn them, adjusting the amount of fuel and air mixing in the carb.
