How do you measure the float height of a carburetor?
With the chamber removed, tip the carb onto its side, in the same position it takes while fitted to the bike. Now blow into the fuel supply pipe, while simultaneously lifting the floats slowly until the air flow stops. This is the measuring point for the specified float height.
How do I know if my Keihin carb is real?
All Keihin carburetors are manufactured in Japan and NOT in China. A copy of the PWK carburetor will have an unmarked light hose. The serial number will be darker than the genuine carburetor. The jets and needles tend to be unmarked in these type of carburetors.
How is carb size measured?
The measurement is the diameter of the bore at the throttle plate; or in other terms, the diameter of the throttle plate itself. The bore of the venturi and the inlet may also be indicated since they have a correlation to the performance parameters of ther carb just as much as jet and needle sizing does.
How do I know what size carb jet I have?
Jets are threaded and have a small orifice through their center that varies based on the size of the jet. For example, a jet may be stamped (on its head) with the number 30. This indicates that the jet’s size is 30 mm.
Does a bigger carb make more power?
Another important result of carb sizing to remember is that smaller CFM carbs will generally give better throttle response in low and mid range rpm, while bigger CFM carbs will develop more power at high rpm. This is because the smaller CFM carb will keep the airflow velocity higher at lower rpms.
Is a 750 cfm carb too big for a 350?
Rule: For maximum performance, select a carburetor that is rated higher than the engine CFM requirement. Use 110% to 130% higher on single-plane manifolds. Example: If the engine needs 590 CFM, select a carburetor rated in the range of 650 to 770 CFM for a single-plane manifold. A 750 would be right.
Do carb spacers add horsepower?
Yes, they will give you more horsepower. But carb spacers have another important function. They also act as insulators which keep engine heat away from your carburetor to ensure cooler incoming air and fuel. Carb spacers are generally made from wood, aluminum, phenolic resin, or polymer.
Is a 600 cfm carb too big for a 305?
600 isn’t too big for a 305. There’s not a whole lot of good to be said about Edelbrock carbs though, except that they’re cheap. With 100% VE, you’d need to spin the 305 to about 6800 RPMs to flow a total of 600 CFM.

Can you put a carb on a Vortec 350?
You can use a carb intake for vortec heads, just get an intake made for vortec heads. A regular chevy distributor will drop right in. Chances are you’ll need to run an electric fuel pump since your block is likely not drilled for a fuel pump pushrod.
