What does mi SWACO do?
M-I Swaco supplies drilling and completion fluid systems and services, oilfield production chemicals, solids control equipment and waste management services to the worldwide oilfield industry.
Is MI Swaco a Schlumberger company?
M-I SWACO became a Schlumberger company in 2010. Innovative drilling fluid engineers are at the company’s core, helping oil and gas operators increase efficiency and lower costs.
What is mud cleaner in drilling?
A Mud Cleaner is a desilter unit that is used to remove sand particles which have a grain size of 20 microns or less. The primary function of a mud cleaner is to remove sand and silt from drilling fluids in the drilling rigs.
What is drilling fluid made of?
Drilling muds are traditionally based on water, either fresh water, seawater, naturally occurring brines, or prepared brines. Many muds are oil-based, using direct products of petroleum refining such as diesel oil or mineral oil as the fluid matrix.
Is drilling mud hazardous?
Drilling muds are composed of numerous chemicals, some of which are toxic, and which are harmful to the environment and its flora and fauna.
What are the drilling fluid additives?
Drilling Fluid Additives
- AQUAGEL GOLD SEAL® Viscosifier.

Which one is a part of mud cleaning process?
A mud cleaner is a combination of desanders and/or desilters mounted over a shaker with a fine mesh screen. A mud is fed to the inlet of the hydrocyclone (desander and/or desilter) to separate particles and the underflow passes to the fine screen mesh where in particles larger than barite are discarded and thrown away.
How does a mud gas separator work?
When contaminated mud is routed into the separator, it flows downward successively over each plate. During this process, the heads of entrained gases “break out.” The released gas is then carried by the vent lines to a remote location where it can be safely flared.
Why is barite used as drilling mud?
Barite increases the hydrostatic pressure of the drilling mud allowing it to compensate for high-pressure zones experienced during drilling. The softness of the mineral also prevents it from damaging drilling tools during drilling and enables it to serve as a lubricant.
What is the difference between ECD and EMW?
Equivalent Circulating Density: Definition: ECD is defined as the EMW (hydrostatic) value plus friction pressure. Unlike EMW, ECD calculations can be applied to a single fluid such as drilling mud being pumped through a wellbore.
